The End Times of Bram & Ben, Gambit Signing with James Asmus

We’re proud to announce that Gambit, The End Times of Bram & Ben, and Thief of Thieves writer James Asmus will be signing at the Portland TFAW from 7 to 10 p.m. February 27! Free food and beer (21+ with valid ID) will be provided. RSVP on Facebook now!

The X-Men’s Ragin’ Cajun returns to a life of crime in Gambit, an action-packed solo series with art by Clay Mann (X-Men Legacy). The End Times of Bram & Ben, Asmus’s hilarious collaboration with Jim Festante and Rem Broo, presents a totally different story: when the Rapture happens, Bram is taken to heaven due to a clerical mistake–only to be immediately returned. Now he and his more level-headed friend Ben must contend with the upcoming Armageddon–not to mention a world full of “sinners.”

James Asmus is a long-time writer, performer, and theater playwright, with works produced in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, and Portland, Oregon. In addition to Gambit and The End Times of Bram & Ben, he is currently co-writing Thief of Thieves for Image Comics with Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead). TFAW will have a wide range of Asmus’s comics available for purchase–don’t miss out on this fantastic signing February 27!

Constantine Five-Page Comic Book Preview From DC Comics

February 14th, 2013 Comments off

Courtesy of DC Entertainment, we have a five-page preview of the upcoming Constantine #1, part of the DC New 52 initiative! The star of Hellblazer and Justice League Dark is getting his own series, debuting this March. Here’s what DC has to say:

You may already know this mischievous Brit from the pages of JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK or Vertigo’s acclaimed HELLBLAZER series, but come this spring, you’re going to see John Constantine in a dark, gritty, and exciting all-new light.

Hitting stands on March 13, CONSTANTINE #1 kicks off an ongoing series starring John Constantine within the ever-expanding DC COMICS-THE NEW 52. From the co-writers of JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK, Jeff Lemire and Ray Fawkes, and fan-favorite artist Renato Guedes, CONSTANTINE shines a spotlight on the notoriously flawed antihero as he works to protect the world from the darkest corners of the DC Universe.

“CONSTANTINE is turning into the window through which readers can see the dirtiest side of superpowers in the DC Universe, the nasty magic side,” Fawkes teased about the series.

“John has a very specific fight he’s actually involved in in this series,” Fawkes continued. “The first issue will reveal what it is he’s after. But he’s the instigator in a lot of the stories that are going to happen. In this book, he’s the one looking for the trouble. Sooner or later trouble starts to find him because of all the things he’s doing . . . John is not your typical hero-type character. He has a lot of vices. You’ll see him indulging in just about all of them. I mean sort of the only thing I can’t do with him in this title is swearing directly. In the book, he drinks, he smokes, he does a lot of other dirty things.”

January Product Review Contest Winners Announced

February 12th, 2013 Comments off

Detective Comics review at TFAW.comHundreds of great product reviews come in every month, and it’s our duty to pour through them and pick three winners as part of our monthly Product Review Contest. Below, you’ll see who won from January’s Product Reviews. We’ll be sending $25 gift certificates to the people who posted them.

Jonah from Rawlins, WY is the first of this month’s winners. Here’s what he had to say about Detective Comics #15:

Having mainly bought this for the tie-in to the Death of the Family event, I was pleasantly surprised at the upswing in quality of writing. The issue gave enough background to the last few issues to let you know what was going on, and crafted it’s own story while putting events in place of Joker’s reign of terror. It had the least to do with the event of the tie-ins I’ve read so far, and yet was still a good story. Misses the 5 star rating because of a few pieces of campy art that seemed misplaced, but otherwise a great issue.

Superman review at TFAW.comNathan from Buffalo, MN wrote several reviews last month. His review of Superman #15 caught our eye.

Recent issues of Superman have been lacking, but this one hopefully has this series back on track. It was real interesting to see modern day Lex in a prison of his own design. He also has a great interaction between Superman and Superboy, as he does his best to mess with their heads. This issue definitely will leave you wanting more Luthor.

JLA Action Figure review at TFAW.comLast but not least, there’s Oscar from Imperial Beach, CA, who’s review for the Justice League Superman Action Figure #1 really spoke to us.

Very high quality and given it’s based verbatim on the main New 52 JL design by Jim Lee it’s a bonus, dude sure has excellent aesthetics; blister/box presentation (minimalistic white) it’s also a big plus ~ as a collector I’m very happy with my purchase and will continue supporting this line-up from DC Collectibles

Thanks so much to everyone who wrote reviews last month. You’re helping people decide what to get (or what to avoid) next.

So submit your reviews and help your fellow collectors, and us, sort out the “HOT” from the “NOT”! Who knows, you may be one of next month’s winners.

HOW TO SUBMIT A PRODUCT REVIEW:
It’s simple! Just visit any product page and look for this:

Click on it and our product review form will appear in a popup. Just fill out the pertinent information and submit your review, and you’re done! We’ll take a look at your review and get it up on the product page soon thereafter!
